DSC03577 Malawi Shire River Safari

Hippopotamus have been poached heavily in Malawi (similar to other African nations). Sometimes it is by those starving for food to feed their families or protecting their crops and other times it is by meat traders.

Most of the hippo images were taken on an early morning river safari through Bushman's Baobabs Bush Lodge and Safari Camp (see links to the left to see what staying there is like; hint: it's AMAZING). The boat ride lasted about 2 ½ hours as the sun was beginning to rise so the river was calm and local fishermen were just setting out on the river as well. I had already been served a proper bush breakfast at camp so I was completely fueled up to capture the many animals and reptiles that crossed our path.
